Tomato Rasam


Ripe Tomato – 4 – 5 pureed
Tamarind paste – 1tsp mixed with 1cup of water
Black mustard seed – 1 tsp
Fenugreek seed – 1/4 tsp
oil – 2 tsp
Rasam powder – 2 tsp ( Homemade or MTR)
Cilantro/Coriander leaves – 2 stem
Pinch of Asafoetida
Salt to taste

To Grind:

Cumin seed – 1tsp
Black Peppercorn – 1/2 tsp
Garlic – 1-2 clove (optional)
Tomato – 1
Cilantro leaves – handfull

Grind the above ingredients into a very coarse paste.


Heat oil in a pan add mustard & fenugreek seed once after it splutters.

Add the grind spices and immediately add the tomato juice and tamarind pulp. now add the asafoetida &  rasam powder

Cook for 5-7 minutes or until the foam gathers on the top.

Switch off the heat, add salt & close the lid.

Tomato Rasam is ready 🙂 This is a small variant of the Rasam recipe.
