Amma’s Ribbon Pakoda

This is a long process for making a Ribbon pakoda but it is the original and traditional recipe which was passed to my grand mum from her grand mum. I’m so happy to say the recipe is like hundred years old. I’m happy to share the diwali traditional recipe.


Idli rice/ par boiled rice – 4 cup
Dried red chilly – 10-12 nos or according to spice level
Peppercorn – 5 – 6
Split Chickpea / Dalia flour – 1 cup
Gram flour/ Besan flour – 1 cup
Butter – 2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Oil for frying


Grind the rice into dosa batter consistency while grinding add the dried red chilly, peppercorn.

To the batter add the gram flour, dalia flour, butter and salt and make it into a soft dough.

With a help of ribbon pakado press, press into hot oil. fry it till the color changes.

Drain oil, cool and store it in air tight container.
