Tomato Pickle


Red tomatoes ( pureed) – 15 to 20
Garlic (minced) – 2 whole
Chilly powder – 3 tsp
Black mustard seed – 1 tbsp
Tamarind paste – 1 tsp
Oil – 3 tbsp
Salt to taste


Heat the oil in a heavy bottomed vessel.

Add the mustard seed, after it splutters add the garlic and fry till the aroma fills the air or for two minutes.

Now add the tomato puree, chilly powder, Salt and stir occasionally.

Cook till the oil separates  from the tomato. Add the tamarind paste and stir. Cook for two more minutes and switch off the flame.

Cool and store it in an air tight container.

Note: You can skip adding the garlic. if you are not a big fan of garlic.
